A public consultation has launched on plans to redevelop and expand Pentrych Primary School in Cardiff.
If progressed, the proposals would mean the school could benefit from enhanced school buildings, improved learning environments and support the school to maintain and continue to build on its recent progress.
The establishment of nursery provision at the school would also promote continuity and progression in children's learning from the age of three and that those families seeking nursery places would no longer need to take up places in a private nursery settings or travel out of the Pentyrch area.
Cabinet Member for Education, Employment and Skills, Cllr Sarah Merry said: "If progressed, investment and development plans for Pentyrch Primary School could provide anexcellent, modern learning environmentalong with a range of benefits and exciting opportunities for both the school and its community.
"The new housing developments in North West Cardiff will generate significant increase in the demand for school places in the area and astrategic expansion of the school would allow greater opportunities for staff and pupils, whilst giving more children the chance to benefit from the education onoffer at the site.
"The public consultation provides a valuable chance for pupils, parents and local people to have their say on the plans which will help shape the future of the proposed scheme."
Expanding the school could play a part in meeting the projected demand for school places to serve parts of Creigiau & St Fagans, Pentyrch and Radyr & Morganstown, providing sufficient places for children resident in the existing school catchment area as well as providing places for children resident in the new housing development at Goitre Fach Farm, near Llantrisant Road.
Proposals for a number of new housing developments in North West Cardiff are underway and will be delivered as part of Cardiff's Local Development plan (LDP) which sets out the infrastructure required to facilitate and sustain the city's growth up to 2026.
