Bolton Council has been awarded an additional £1.4 million to help build 94 new homes on brownfield land in Farnworth.

The decision was confirmed at a meeting of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.

The total of £1,410,000 comes from the Greater Manchester Brownfield Housing Fund, a scheme set up in 2020 to unlock development sites across the city region.

The funding was initially earmarked for other Greater Manchester boroughs but has since been reallocated to Farnworth due to delivery issues with the other sites.

The 94 homes would form part of the proposed CAPITAL&CENTRIC redevelopment of Farnworth market precinct and the funds are to be used towards preparing the site.

Bolton Council Leader, Cllr Martyn Cox, said: "We are delighted that our bid had been successful, and that Farnworth town centre has now been confirmed as a recipient of £1.4m from the GM Brownfield Housing Fund.

"This will add to the funds already being invested by the council as we make good on our commitment to regenerate Farnworth town centre."
