VINCI has scooped a contract to develop student accommodation at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol).
Student Accommodation Project 3 (SAP3) is a scheme with 900-bedspaces over 26,000m2 of space in a mix of studios including four, six and eight bed clusters.
The 3-block development, designed by Stride Treglown, Curtins, Amber and QODA is to start at the university's Frenchay campus in November and will be handed over prior to the 2023/2024 student intake.
Passivhaus buildings provide a high level of occupant comfort while using very little energy for heating and cooling. The standards will help both VINCI and UWE Bristol achieve their sustainability goals outlined in their 2030 strategies.
Martin Boddy, Pro Vice-Chancellor Research and Enterprise at UWE Bristol, said: "We're delighted to have awarded our sector-leading student accommodation project to VINCI, one of the top construction companies in the world. It is particularly pleasing to be partnering with an organisation that shares a commitment to sustainability and innovation.
"When completed, the development will represent one of the largest low carbon certified developments of its kind and a first for the university sector in the UK. It will also contribute to the clear commitment we made in our future strategy to make high quality, affordable, purpose-built university accommodation available to all our first-year students. We are all very much looking forward to construction work starting on site next month."
