Construction News Image
MKM Building Supplies has officially opened a new branch in Canterbury.

Darts legend and 'King of Bling' Bobby George also attended the opening.

Customers visiting the branch on the Wincheap Industrial Estate were invited to take aim in a series of darts challenges against Bobby himself, with the chance to take home some exclusive signed merchandise. Leading sports announcer Paul Booth was master of ceremonies on the day, helping ensure MKM Canterbury was launched to both the trade and public in style.

To further mark the opening of the new branch, MKM Canterbury also teamed up with the much-loved Demelza Hospice Care for Children, which provides vital care and emotional support for children with serious and terminal conditions across Kent, South East London and East Sussex.

Len Richardson, co-director of the MKM Canterbury branch, said: "It was fantastic to see so many customers visit us on our first day of trading here on the Wincheap Industrial Estate. The darts challenge proved to be a very popular draw for the local community, and it was fantastic to welcome Bobby and Paul to the branch.

"We are very happy to also lend our support to Demelza Hospice. It's a charity that means a lot to the whole team here, so it was an honour to include such a worthy cause in our opening celebrations."

Len's co-director, Mark Carver, added: "With more than 400 years of experience between us, our 14-strong team is committed to making this the premier destination for building supplies in the area. We are thrilled to be offering a full range of products to the local construction sector, from building materials and plumbing and heating supplies, to landscaping, electrical drainage and timber and joinery. What’s more, our stunning kitchen and bathroom features a host of stunning designs to inspire local homeowners."

Claire Battersby, community fundraising executive at Demelza Hospice Care for Children, said: "After a year in which fundraising opportunities were severely limited by the pandemic, it was great to be back out and about in the Canterbury community. I’d like to thank the team at MKM Canterbury for inviting me to the launch, and I look forward to working with them again in the future."

Kate Tinsley, CEO of MKM Building Supplies, concluded: "It's great to welcome MKM Canterbury to our growing national branch network. As the largest independent builders merchant in the country, we place real value on outstanding service and pride ourselves on the excellent knowledge of the local areas that surround each of our branches.

"I wish MKM Canterbury all the best as they begin trading, and am confident they will provide the best quality service to their community."
