Plans to build new homes in the Brooklands area of Jaywick Sands have been approved.
The proposals for four houses and four flats on Brooklands were approved by Tendring District Council.
Although of a different design and scale to other existing properties, the decision noted that replicating existing development would not be appropriate due to flood risk.
It is one of a number of applications of this type to be granted planning permission in the area in the past three years.
Paul Honeywood, TDC Cabinet Member with Special Responsibility for Jaywick Sands, said things had to be done differently if the area was to move forward.
"Replacing like-for-like is not a possibility in Jaywick Sands due to the rules and regulations in the area due to flood risk," Councillor Honeywood said.
"However doing nothing will cause the area to stagnate, which is why we are taking a proactive approach to property-led redevelopment of the area. This balances flood risk and regeneration, along with providing homes for future generations of Jaywick Sands residents to live in."
The development will consist of four three-storey terraced houses and a three-storey block of four flats, making a total of eight two-bedroom properties, replacing two existing bungalows. To reduce flood risk, car parking will occupy the ground floor with living accommodation above.
