EDF has been selected by Ofgem to help customers left without a supplier after Utility Point ceased trading on 14 September.

EDF will take on approximately 220,000 Utility Point domestic customers. EDF has agreed to protect any money a customer may be owed and existing customers' credit on their accounts will be transferred across to their new account with EDF.

Customers will be matched to standard variable prices to provide a guaranteed rate through winter and protection against the extreme volatility of wholesale prices, with a price which is our cheapest available and among the lowest in the market.


Customers' energy supply will continue as normal as they switch over to EDF and they will be contacted directly to let them know what the next steps are.

Managing Director for EDF's Customers business Philippe Commaret, said: "We are pleased to be able to step in to support the customers of Utility Point, who will have been concerned to hear that their existing supplier has unfortunately ceased trading, we’re working closely with the supplier to ensure a smooth transition for all customers. With EDF, they will be getting a reliable supplier who provides excellent service and a guaranteed, fair rate through winter. Customers do not need to do anything at the moment – supply will continue as normal and we’ll be in touch to explain any new arrangements."
