Refurb Work Complete At Scunthorpe General Hospital

Morgan Sindall Construction has completed refurbishment work to an operating theatre at Scunthorpe General Hospital.

The refurbishment of Theatre E at the hospital, operated by Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, involved an 18 week programme that saw a range of improvements to the facility, which is used for a wide range of operations.

This included a complete strip out of existing fixtures and fittings as well as mechanical and electrical and rooftop plant equipment, which was subsequently replaced with an entirely new operating theatre.

The renovated facility incorporates new internal walling and an ultraclean ventilation canopy attached to the theatre ceiling, as well as new ancillary areas featuring scrub, sterile and anaesthetic rooms with accompanying safety and mechanical and electrical upgrades.

Running alongside the main theatre works, Morgan Sindall Construction also managed the formation and upgrading of the medical air plantroom. This included the installation of structural steelwork supports for the supply air ductwork, together with compressors, receivers, air dryers and manifolds.

The renovation took place over a period of 18 weeks, and is now in operation following a post-completion deep clean.

The project was the latest stage of Morgan Sindall Construction Yorkshire and North East’s work in helping to create enhanced facilities for the NHS. Since 2020, the team has delivered a range essential improvement works to key facilities within Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) Foundation Trust’s hospitals, from ensuring wards were Covid-secure to installing new medical gas pipework.
