Forge New Homes and Caddick Construction have started construction work on the new 98-home The Hedgerows development in Pilsley, North Derbyshire.
Marking the key date with an official ground-breaking ceremony, the seven-acre scheme is situated near Clay Cross and Chesterfield and due for completion in summer 2023. The development will also offer 30 much-needed affordable housing and shared ownership homes within a mix of two, three and four bedroom properties, including bungalows.
The £12 million project, led by Forge New Homes, was made possible through a Joint Venture between five Sheffield housing providers - Great Places Housing Group, the Guinness Partnership, South Yorkshire Housing Association Together Housing, and Yorkshire Housing. The housing associations own and manage 150,000 homes across the UK.
Peter Paige, Caddick Construction Contract Manager for the scheme, said: "The Caddick team is delighted to be starting on The Hedgerows project that will provide high quality housing for both the private and affordable housing markets. Caddick Construction is probably more associated with building large commercial developments than homes, but our residential division has seen huge growth over the last 18 months and the Pilsley scheme is a perfect example of how co-operation between like-minded housing providers can make a real difference within local communities."
Andy Beattie, Project Director at Forge New Homes, said: "We're excited to have started on site at our landmark first scheme. This mix-tenure development will provide 98 high-quality much needed new homes in the area. Getting to this stage under the current circumstances has proved a challenge and is a real testament to continued support and hard work of partners and design team that has made this possible."
Steve Close, Chief Executive of Together Housing and Chair of Forge New Homes, added: "It's great news that The Hedgerows scheme is now underway and will make a significant contribution towards the region’s housing needs, as well as providing more than 30 affordable rented or shared ownership homes.
"All the partners are looking forward to seeing the development take shape with Caddick Construction leading on this high-quality build that will have such a positive impact on Pilsley."
Forge New Homes is a relatively new entrant to the Sheffield City Region (SCR) housing market and is looking to work collaboratively with the Sheffield City Region Combined Authority and the nine local authorities, with site interests stretching from Bassetlaw, Derbyshire, up to Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley, South Yorkshire.
Architects on the scheme were Manchester-based MPSL Planning & Design.
