A public consultation has launched on 'Mexborough Futures' plan in Doncaster.
A number of proposals are up for consideration including improving access, enhancing the retail and housing offer and improving the overall look and feel of the area.
Ros Jones, Mayor of Doncaster, said: "The 'Mexborough Futures' masterplan will identify investment opportunities and projects which could help transform Mexborough town centre and deliver lasting change and benefits for residents and businesses.
"I am committed to encouraging regeneration in all Doncaster's town centres so they so they are fit for the future. This masterplan will provide a positive direction for the future of Mexborough by looking carefully at the right mix of shops, homes, leisure and cultural opportunities. It could help the town thrive and provide plenty for people to experience and enjoy.
"I recently applied and was successful in gaining South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) funding of £300,000 for Mexborough Market Gateway and Bus Station improvements.
"As we start to recover both socially and economically from the Coronavirus Pandemic, this masterplan will provide us with the ‘shovel-ready’ schemes and projects that we can then put forward for funding. Boris Johnson has promised to Level-up the North, it’s time he put his money where his mouth is."
The masterplan has been delayed, in part due to the pandemic, but getting this back on track is more important than ever for the local economy and the mental and physical health of Doncaster residents.
Once developed and approved, the Mexborough Masterplan will become important when considering future planning applications as well as setting out key proposals to target investment, the masterplan will also support future funding bids to help them become reality.
The public engagement will run until Friday 15 January 2021.
