Wates Smartspace has completed work on a £1.6 million project at Worthington Primary School in Chesire.
The scheme was delivered through the North West Construction Hub framework on behalf of Trafford Council and has provided four additional classrooms as well as new WC facilities that will enable the school to increase its annual admissions rate from 45 to 60.
The school remained in occupation for teachers and key workers throughout construction, which harnessed new site operating procedures due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and work was completed with no delays.
Wates is committed to leaving a legacy within the communities it works and this was demonstrated through the provision of employment and training opportunities for five local people across 78 weeks. It also appointed a number of social enterprises as part of its project supply chain and despite restrictions caused by the pandemic, was still able to participate in initiatives that would benefit local people. This included recycling construction waste into fence panels and planters and providing external paving outside the home of an NHS worker to improve their access.
Richard Evans, Key Account Director, Wates Smartspace, said: "The success of this project can be seen in the quality of the extension at the school and how it is already enabling more children to thrive in education. We have helped create an inspiring place for children to learn as in doing so provided training and employment opportunities for local people. This is at the very heart of the Wates ethos of creating tomorrow together."
