Work is to start on a £36,000 project to create a new path and improve street lighting in Bunbury Green in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.

The funding was allocated from Cheshire West and Chester Council, The Community Safety Partnership, the Police and Crime Commissioner, Cheshire Fire and Rescue and Riverside Housing.

The works are expected to take around three weeks depending on the weather to make the area feel a lot safer for residents at night.

Councillor Robert Cernik, Cabinet Member for Children and families and member of the Community Safety Partnership said: "After a great deal of consultation with residents it is fantastic news that this project is going to be delivered by Christmas. The area is particularly dark in the evenings, this new path will improve access across the estate for many people and make the whole area feel safer."

Chief Inspector Catherine Pritchard, lead for Ellesmere Port Local Policing Unit said: "By improving the lighting in this small area and creating the new path we can help to deter people from committing offences and make local residents feel safer in their community.

"Following the completion of this scheme we will continue to work closely with partner agencies and local residents to help improve the area to help make Bunbury Green a better place to live."
