Hadden Group has started construction work on a £3.1 million council house development on the site of the former Belhaven House care home in Wishaw.
The new project includes 16 homes, a mix of houses, cottage flats and wheelchair standard bungalows and is the 40th site in North Lanarkshire now complete or underway.
All of the new homes have been designed for the future with a range of innovative features including being flexible enough to adapt as a tenant's circumstances change, are secure by design and boast a 'very good' eco rating, saving tenants money on their bills while protecting the environment.
Speaking about the new development at Roberts Street, Councillor Heather Brannan-McVey, Convener of Housing and Regeneration, said: "We're continuing to provide modern, affordable homes across North Lanarkshire and our latest development signals another exciting chapter in our new build story. It's also fitting that this year marks a decade on from the completion of our first new house building project under this programme, which was delivered in Holytown.
"Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and Scottish Government guidelines for the building industry, it's been a challenging time. However, we've continued to work behind the scenes to push forward our housing programme to ensure we deliver our target. Every one of our housing developments supports the local economy, community and provides jobs and improves the lives of our tenants and residents.
"I look forward to seeing this site progress to its completion and to our new tenants moving in."
The new development is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.
