Interserve Construction has scooped a £9.3 million contract to build a new academy in Bristol.
The company has commenced work on Learn@ Multi-Academy Trust's new special needs school at Soundwell.
Interserve Construction was awarded the contract by the Department for Education to design and build the new Soundwell Academy for Learn@ MAT, which delivers specialist education for children across the South West.
The academy will be constructed on the Soundwell Centre site which was formerly part of the City of Bristol College. Interserve Construction will create a facility for pupils with a range of needs, with the design team paying particular attention to creating a variety of bespoke learning spaces as well as a residential unit for short midweek stays.
Interserve Construction's scope of work will also include refurbishing and reconfiguring the existing blocks on site as well as the creation of sports pitches and a multi-use games area. Construction is expected to be complete by July 2021.
The Learn@ group of academies serve the West of England with specialist education facilities for children aged five through to 19 who have a variety of needs. It offers children an inclusive curriculum and a personalised experience, ultimately helping to equip its students with the skills needed to embrace life-long learning.
Interserve's successful bid for the Learn@ contract aligns with the Interserve Construction’s strategy of delivering first-class facilities in the education sector, where it has a strong track record as partner with the Department for Education.
In the past six months Interserve Construction has been awarded six new school build projects including a £27m contract to build the new Saddleworth School in Oldham.
