Mace To Provide Project Management Services For Station Development

Mace has been appointed to provide project management services for the Brent Cross West Station development in north London.

The project, which has been brought forward by Barnet Council, is part of urban regeneration plans for the wider Brent Cross area. It involves the construction of a new rail station that will be linked to the nearby Brent Cross South scheme and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2022.

Mace has also secured the Programme Support Office partner role on the £39bn Northern Powerhouse Rail scheme in June.

At Brent Cross West, Mace has been brought in to manage a broad scope of activities associated with the station’s development, including: the relocation of existing rail operations offices and welfare facilities; the realignment of existing railway and creation of railway sidings; and the construction of the new five-platform railway station at Brent Cross West. As project manager for the scheme, Mace will also be responsible for overseeing all planning, integration and construction; implementing of a programme controls function; securing and issuing all notices and approvals; assurance of contractor performance; and commercial and contract management.

A team of 30 Mace people will deliver the services, working hand-in-hand with Barnet Council and other key partners, including the main contractor leading on the station’s construction, VolkerFitzpatrick.

In addition, Mace will be responsible for developing a collaborative working relationship with Network Rail to ensure coordination of different workstreams.

Councillor Daniel Thomas, Leader of Barnet Council, said: "We are pleased to be working with Mace to project manage the station programme through to completion in 2022 when the new Brent Cross West Station will connect both new and existing communities to the heart of London in under 15 minutes."
