A new build domestic basement in the Northampton area has been supported with the installation of an external waterproofing system.
ProTen Services was invited by a local architect to submit an estimate to install a designed external application below ground waterproofing system. The firm was then instructed by the main contractor to carry out the installation of the agreed system.
A lime suppressant was applied to the concrete block walls to reduce the risk of 'free lime' affecting the system. A two-coat waterproofing slurry was applied to the wall-floor joint area with a waterproof fillet at the base of the wall using a specialist mortar.
A polymer modified bitumen thick film sealant for waterproofing external structures was applied in two-coats to which a glass fibre mesh was installed over the wall fillet and into the internal corners. The external waterproofing membrane was then applied which provided a 4-layer high compression strength membrane system. Specialist fixing was applied to seal the waterproofing system.
This resulted in the delivery of a fully BS8102:2009 compliant watertight basement external wall with ProTen Company Guarantee, leaving it ready for the main contractor to backfill and then apply necessary finishes.
