A project is underway in the Tanhouse area of Runcorn to transform a derelict site into new affordable housing.

Plus Dane Housing is leading the project, which will see the construction of 16 affordable rental homes. Demolition began at the start of January, and the homes are scheduled for completion in spring 2021.

Energy and regeneration specialist, ENGIE is on board to deliver the project with support from Homes England through its Affordable Homes Programme. John McCall Architects will work with the firm to deliver the design and construction of the new homes in accordance with Plus Danes design and specification.

Steven Gregory, Head of New Build at ENGIE, said: "We're incredibly excited about this project and are pleased to already be on site and progressing this build.

"This scheme has been procured via one of our frameworks, which enabled us to fast track the project for Plus Dane and get started.

"These new homes will be a fantastic addition to Runcorn, and we look forward to working closely with our partners to provide employment opportunities for local residents and a modern neighbourhood to complement the regeneration of the local area."

As part of this development, Plus Dane and ENGIE have worked together to offer employment and training opportunities for Plus Dane customers interested in construction. There will be an Open Day on Tuesday 10 March from 11am to 1pm at The Community Shop at Priory House, Northway in Runcorn, offering the chance to find out more about ENGIE's opportunities - which include CSCS and asbestos qualifications, and three full-time jobs working on the development.
