The development of a new primary school in Peterborough has reached a project milestone.
Contractor Interserve marked the progress on the new Hampton Lakes Primary School by burying a time capsule under the floor of the new school's reception. It contained pictures of the childrens' classwork along with painted handprints.
The firm's representatives were joined by four foundation stage children accompanied by Head of School Zoe Trigg to mark the occasion.
When complete, the new school will have space for 420 children living in Hampton East and the wider Hampton area of the city and will also accommodate 26 nursery places.
The new school, which is a major educational priority for Peterborough City Council with the city experiencing a significant population boom, is expected to open in September 2020.
Throughout the construction, a number of Interserve apprentices including electricians, joiners and quantity surveyors will work on site benefiting from hands-on experience alongside their more formal studies.
Richard Scarrott, Divisional Director at Interserve Construction, said: "Apprenticeships are a key pillar of our early career strategy and a key investment opportunity which supports the company's growth and its ability develop our talent pool and fill future skills gaps. From school leavers to undergraduates, Interserve's apprenticeship programmes allow young adults to realise their long-term career plan aligned to Interserve's vision of employing the best talent in the markets where we operate."
