New Savoy Cinema Opens In Grantham

Grantham town centre has become the latest location to welcome a new Savoy cinema.

The cinema, Savoy's fifth development, was delivered as part of a regeneration project by South Kesteven District Council.

Contractor G F Tomlinson led the project, which saw the delivery of a 20,000 sq ft scheme housing a five-screen, 701 seat cinema as well as two, 3,100 sq ft retail units and a lettable upper floor space.

Property, construction and infrastructure consultancy Pick Everard acted as quantity surveyor and NEC contract supervisor.

The scheme was procured through the Scape Regional Construction framework.

The new building is expected to draw in 250,000 guests per year and provide the town with an easily accessible cinema at the heart of Grantham, increasing footfall and delivering real social value for the area.

Javeed Virk, director at Pick Everard said: "We are delighted to have worked on this scheme, bringing brand new retail, leisure and learning facilities to the town centre.

"We were working to a constrained site, where access had to be maintained for neighbouring offices and buildings. This was managed collaboratively by keeping in communications with neighbouring businesses, the contractor, cost consultants and the client."

The project was completed on time and on budget. The cinema is state-of-the-art, with screen 1 boasting the first Barco Series 4 laser projector in the UK and Dolby Atmos sound.

Mark Robinson, Scape Group chief executive, added: "Developments like this are really transformative for the community. This investment from Kesteven District Council will create a real destination for the local population, stimulating economic activity in the process. By procuring this project through our framework, Kesteven District Council guaranteed that this important project was delivered efficiently and by a talented local workforce."
