Galliford Try has partnered with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) to launch an interactive card game.
The 'Construction Career Cards' demonstrate and promote the breadth of careers in the industry. They contain 40 different roles, allowing young people a greater insight into construction.
Three other contractors from the North Wales Construction Partnership (Read Construction, Willmott Dixon and Wynne Construction) helped produce the cards. They were funded by the North-East Wales Construction Training Group, with support provided from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
Each contractor involved provided a selection of real images representing a job role designed to give a realistic insight into the role and settings individuals could be working in.
Galliford Try have trialled the cards at a Careers Wales high schools event and a pre-employment programme at HMP Berwyn, and will be using them as part of its programme to promote careers in schools and careers events.
Ceri Rush Jones, CITB Local Manager, North Wales said: "The Construction Career Cards are a fun and informative way to learn about a diverse industry. The variety of roles on the cards show the range of construction opportunities open to people of all ages and backgrounds - something CITB promotes through our skills and training work in the sector. This collaboration is a very good way of raising the profile of construction careers."
Joy Woods, Social Value Manager for Galliford Try North West, commented: "At Galliford Try we are committed to our Early Careers population with over 400 of our employees being either graduates, trainees or apprentices. Using these cards within schools will allow us to showcase our exciting industry and encourage more people to choose a career in construction.
"These cards are a great tool to dispel some of the myths which exist around our industry – the cards open the conversation about the huge variety of roles, the numerous routes into Construction, and the number of future opportunities, in a fun and engaging way."
