Costain is set to lend its expertise to United Utilities' flagship Manchester and Pennines Resilience project.

The firm secured an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) contract, which will involve providing strategic consultancy services on areas such as preliminary designs, temporary land requirements for construction, land and environmental surveys and investigations. These works will help United Utilities increase the resilience of water supply in the Manchester area.

The contract runs for an initial three-year period with the option to extend the agreement to a maximum of five years. The framework is expected to be worth up to £1 million over the duration of the contract.

Gerard Shore, water sector director, Costain, commented: "Following on from our appointment as sole maintenance provider earlier this year, we are now able to provide additional strategic consultancy services to United Utilities in support of their strategy and in line with customer expectations and regulatory requirements."
