New Endoscopy Unit Delivered At York Hospital

Construction News Image
York Hospital has increased its capacity for endoscopy services courtesy of a project delivered by Kier.

The national contractor completed a new Endoscopy Unit for the site on behalf of York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This unit will help increase the number of rooms dedicated for endoscopy services from three to seven.

Built on top of York Hospital's existing physiotherapy building, the two-storey unit also contains a link bridge connecting it to the main hospital corridors at first floor level.

The facility aims to become one of the UK's biggest and most advanced endoscopy units. It will allow the Trust to considerably increase the number of endoscopy procedures it delivers to accommodate rising demand while improving the efficiency of the process and patient flow.

Managing director at Kier Regional Building Northern John O'Callaghan, said: "Completing this project has seen us celebrate 15 years of working with the York Teaching NHS Foundation Trust. We're delighted to have been a part of such a fantastic project and we look forward to seeing the unit opened to the public in September."

Brian Golding, Director of Estates and Facilities, for York Hospital, commented: "This is an exciting development for the Trust and it will transform our service into a centre of excellence for endoscopy, providing enhanced high quality care to our patients."
