The Hertfordshire town of Harpenden is set to offer locals a host of new leisure and cultural facilities courtesy of a £17 million construction project.

National contractor Willmott Dixon is working with a St Albans District Council to introduce a new leisure and cultural centre in the area.

This project will see the existing swimming pool building in Rothamsted Park upgraded to feature a 17 metre-long learner pool, sports hall, dance studios and a larger gym plus new changing rooms, a steam room, sauna and reception area.

The adjacent sports facility will also be transformed into Harpenden Cultural Centre with a 511-seat theatre which will host national and local touring productions. A 92-space car park is also being developed as part of the project.

Work on the project is expected to be completed in autumn 2020.

Willmott Dixon procured the contract via Major Works England and Northern Ireland, a part of the Scape National Construction framework.

This project also follows on from the firm's success handing over St Albans' award winning Museum and Gallery.
