A major construction milestone has been marked on a building in Birmingham City Centre.
Building 3AC, which will be primarily occupied by HM Revenue and Customs, is being developed by Kier Property following the acquisition of Arena Central in early last year.
Representatives from Kier and contractor Galliford Try were on hand to hold a Topping-Out Ceremony at Arena Central.
Tom Gilman, managing director North for Kier Property commented: "The site is within the Birmingham City Centre Enterprise Zone and therefore benefits from simplified planning. This scheme significantly enhances our activities in the West Midlands and is part of a major redevelopment of 10 buildings consisting of offices, residential, hotels and a university research & business hub through to Q4 2026."
Along with HMRC, the building will also serve as a home for the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) and Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). HMRC and DWP will occupy the building when complete in early 2020.
Ann Roberts, HMRC, Regional Implementation Lead for West Midlands added: "I'm pleased to be celebrating, with colleagues from the DWP and VOA, this significant milestone. We can really start to look ahead to the modern, flexible and collaborative working environments we will be working from.
"Once complete there will be a range of staff from across the West Midlands based in this state-of-the-art building delivering vital services for the public. We are excited to reach the next milestone, when HMRC assume responsibility for the building and the internal fit out starts, bringing us a step closer to achieving our transformation."
Kier Property's acquisition of Arena Central will also see the development of three further phases of the site's existing master plan, in addition to the current construction works.
