The development of a new computer science and mathematics building at Cardiff University has taken a major stride forward.

ISG has landed the contract to deliver the new facility, which will bring together the School of Computer Science and Informatics (COMSC) and the School of Mathematics (MATHS) into one world-leading facility.

The building is being developed on a Cathays campus site next to Cathays railway station, which is currently used as a University car park.

Professor Rudolf Allemann, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Head of the College of Physical Sciences and Engineering, said: "We are looking forward to progressing our plans with contractor ISG.

"This is a fantastic opportunity that will benefit our staff and students, substantially improve the student experience and enhance our cutting-edge research.

"Both Schools are expanding their student numbers so this will enable us to accommodate the growth in a modern, bespoke building, as well as supporting innovative joint degree schemes.

"Bringing together the two Schools will also allow us to develop new research in cyber security, artificial intelligence and data science, areas that are of major importance to society."

The development has been designed by the South Wales studio national practice Stride Treglown with renowned design studio, Adjaye Associates.
