Work Begins On New Oxfordshire Secondary School

Construction work has commenced on a new secondary school in Bicester, Oxfordshire, providing 600 new student spaces for the area.

The Whitelands Academy will consist of a 5,210m2 school housing 26-classrooms and dedicated special educational needs areas as well as a four-court sports hall with changing facilities. It will also feature outdoor social spaces including a garden and allotments, quiet areas, a multi-use games area and sports pitches for rugby, hockey and football.

Contractor Kier is delivering the project on behalf of the White Horse Foundation, a multi-academy trust of over 30 schools across south west England.

The firm is also working with Oxfordshire County Council to complete the project.

Whitelands Academy is at the centre of a new village community in Bicester called Kingsmere and is the second project Kier has delivered that is managed by The White Horse Federation, having previously built the Gloucester Academy in 2013.

The school is scheduled to open in September 2020.
