The people of Rotherham are set to benefit from green energy with the introduction of Templeborough Biomass Power Plant.
His Royal Highness The Duke of York officially opened the plant last week, which generates clean, green energy using waste wood as a fuel.
The power plant was built by a consortium of Interserve Construction and Babcock & Wilcox Vølund from Denmark. It was handed over in March 2019, after it successfully exported more than 41MW of green electricity to the national grid last summer.
A group, Templeborough Biomass Power Plant Ltd, was established to develop, construct and maintain the plant and is managed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), a Danish fund management company which specialises in offering tailor-made investments in contracted long-term energy infrastructure assets.
CIP also invested £160m in building the Templeborough plant through its fund Copenhagen Infrastructure II (CI II).
Leader of Rotherham Council Cllr Chris Read said: "We are delighted to have such a significant project open and generating renewable energy in our community. The benefits will bring the introduction of new, high tech, long term employment, recognising the immense skill base of our local people. Our region has so much to offer and we are delighted that the visit of His Royal Highness The Duke of York brought international recognition to our project."
