Southlands Hospital in West Sussex has been upgraded with an improved hot and cold domestic water system.
The works involved the replacement of existing water tanks and pipework and the installation of 160 new Integrated Plumbing System (IPS) panels.
Contractor Kier completed the project nine weeks early. The project was completed in phases to maintain the hospital's daily operations and ensure that the work effect on the treatment of patients was minimised.
The works were completed in phases to maintain the hospital's daily operations and ensure that the work effect on the treatment of patients was minimised. The new water system ran parallel with the old system, enabling a consistent supply was maintained, with the original system shut down in phases after a successful changeover.
As a result of the project completing early, Kier was also able to create a much-needed Changing Places facility which will provide accessible shower and changing facilities inside the hospital for both patients and the general public.
Trevor White, operations director for Kier Regional Building (Southern) said: "Thanks to efficient programming and excellent teamwork between the Trust, hospital and Kier, we are delighted to have delivered the project early and continue our great relationship with Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust."
The project was procured via the Scape Minor Works framework and Kier Regional Building Southern continue to deliver refurbishment and upgrade works for all the Trust's sites: St Richard's, Southlands and Worthing hospitals.
