The development of Braywick Leisure Centre in Maidenhead has made significant progress with work now underway to erect the steel frame.
The £32.8m facility will replace the 40-year old Magnet Leisure Centre, and feature a 10-lane swimming pool, larger training and splash pools, a 200-station gym, four squash courts, a larger sports hall and improved accessibility for disabled users.
Wates Construction is leading the development of the centre, and is working to deliver a structure of 500 tons of steel and 20,000 tons of poured concrete. The contractor expects work to be complete on the steel frame by July.
Alec Jackman, Business Unit Director at Wates Construction, said: "This is a significant milestone in the build programme of Braywick Leisure Centre. With the steel frame now under construction, local residents will really start to see their bold and ambitious new leisure facility taking shape.
"The project is set to provide the surrounding community with a host of new services and lifestyle opportunities when it opens and I'm pleased to report that we're on track for completion in early autumn."
The project is being carried out on behalf of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead via Major Works – UK, part of Scape's National Construction framework.
