Commenting on his appointment, Ian said: "Our aim is to keep the nation moving through the development of smart infrastructure solutions. By combining all our transportation services into a single division, we will strengthen our ability to meet the needs of our clients in an increasingly integrated and multi-modal world.

"Moreover, at a time when transport is so high on the political agenda in Britain, it is evident that smart thinking and sustainable, long term solutions will be needed to meet the country's evolving transport needs and I believe that Costain has a leading role to play in shaping this future."
