Kier has won a contract to deliver a new £13 million sixth form academy in Bradford.

Dixons Sixth Form will offer 880 places for students aged 16-18, and is based on Old Bowling Lane in Douglas Mill.

The NHS-occupied site will be refurbished and a new sports hall will be built as part of the project.

The work is being completed on behalf of Bradford-based Multi-Academy Trust, Dixon Academies Trust.

John O'Callaghan, managing director for Kier Construction Northern, commented: "We are thrilled that the DfE has appointed us to deliver Dixons Sixth Form in Bradford. There is a shortage of post-16 places the city, and there is no doubt that the construction of a new sixth form will be positive for the local area.

"We will construct modern education, teaching and sporting facilities to help towards Dixons vision which is to continue to revolutionise the education offering in Bradford for all pupils to be Russell Group ready."

The sixth form is scheduled to open to its first cohort of 360 students late August 2019.

The full capacity of 880 students will be welcomed by September 2021.
