Buyer's Guide To A Loft Hatch With Ladder

Construction News Image
When it comes to fitting a new loft hatch, whether it is a direct replacement or if you are looking to change the size of your current structural opening (hole in the ceiling), Trade Access Panels can provide bespoke insulated Loft Hatches to suit almost any requirement, including both Fire or Non-Fire Rated hatches and those with Youngman ladders or Zip-Ladders attached.

I myself (Emma) have recently had a bespoke loft hatch made and installed for my home. The original loft hatch was wooden in construction and was extremely tired with a very old-fashioned architrave trim. The wooden ladder was, well, battered and unsafe to say the least! It was also a rather complicated loft hatch to manufacture due to the picture frame needing to be different sizes on each side (not a standard 25mm picture frame/surround as with most hatches) to suit the original hole in the ceiling.

We decided to opt for a Metal Door with Picture Frame (different sizes as mentioned) and dust primed for onsite decoration so that when we paint the ceiling, we can simply paint the hatch and ceiling at the same time. We had considered a beaded frame which we would plaster/skim over however due to the original loft hatch/hole being so old we decided that using the picture frame option to cover the imperfections would be most appropriate on this occasion.

Unfortunately, a standard Youngman ladder would not be suitable on this occasion as the loft itself is converted and there is a wooden element which means that there is not enough room for the ladder to fold correctly. Therefore, we opted for a Zip-Ladder instead which is not usually required for a domestic property as it is ideally suited for the commercial due to its sturdy and professional construction.

The loft hatch and ladder were fitted with ease and I have to say the finished result is perfect both aesthetically and about ease of use. I am only 5'5" and therefore I required the 500mm extended Tee-Key to enable me to open the hatch without needing a ladder to reach the hatch.

Please bear us in mind for all projects that may arise. If you have any loft requirements then get in touch with one of our dedicated sales team who will be glad to assist you sales@tradeaccesspanels.co.uk – 01922 500145.
