Kier has landed a design and build contract for a new school in Walsall.

The £7.2 million Yew Tree Primary School will consist of a two-storey building, replacing one of the existing buildings on site, which is set to be demolished.

The new state-of-the-art building will include six Infant classrooms & eight Junior classrooms, a main hall, a drama studio, library resource centre, SEN provision and ancillary teaching facilities.

It is being completed under the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) East Midlands Priority School Building Programme 2 (PSBP2).

Mark Pausey, managing director for Kier Central, commented: "We're thrilled to be constructing Yew Tree Primary School in Walsall. The current building was constructed in the 1950s and this new facility will provide pupils will a much-needed modern and updated learning experience, designed to help pupils achieve their full potential."

Rachel Hawkins, headteacher at Yew Tree School, added: "This is an exciting time for Yew Tree pupils, staff and the community. The planning process with Kier and the ESFA team has been very supportive. The team have ensured the building is able to facilitate our vision for a broad and exciting curriculum for all."
