Britcon has delivered a new grocery store development in North Somercotes, Lincolnshire.

The building and civil engineering firm completed a new £600,000 Co-op store in the village across a 20-week timeframe.

The new retail development also includes an in-store bakery and a 23-space car park with supporting infrastructure and drainage system.

It was built on the site of a former garage in the village, bringing significant challenges due to the proximity to the salt marsh flats on the North Sea.

Paul Clarkson, Managing Director at Britcon, said: "The construction of foundations and external works for the project were challenging because of sand and gravel deposits as well as high ground water conditions, which are tidal. We had to drive down 16-20-metre-long precast concrete piles so that we could cast the reinforced concreate foundations onto them. We also installed a Suitable Drainage System (SUDS) to manage the impact of any surface water and residue. Nevertheless, we completed the project on budget and on time."

The project was commissioned through Developer Rutherford Holdings Ltd, and adds to Britcon's success delivering multiple retail projects for clients like Aldi, Lidl, Skoda and Staples.
