A project which will transform Birmingham's Centenary has reached a new stage as the first trees were planted on the site.

Bouygues is delivering the redevelopment project, which involves turning the area into a public place, featuring a 5cm-deep pool with water jets, which can be drained for events to take place. It will be illuminated by 43 lighting columns.

A number of trees will be planted in the coming months, ahead of the project's expected completion this summer.

Councillor Sharon Thompson, Cabinet Member for Homes and Neighbourhoods at Birmingham City Council, said: "The transformation of Centenary Square into a world-class public space for Birmingham is progressing well, and it was a privilege to be involved in putting one of the first trees into place."
