Wates Group has launched a 'Treeathlon' tree planting project for 2019, in an attempt to tackle climate change during construction.

The project, to be delivered in conjunction with charity partner The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) as well as the Carbon Footprint Company, will see Wates aim to plant 5,000 trees between 2019 and 2022.

This project will help address the inevitable CO2 produced during construction, which can have a detrimental impact on our climate.

The trees will use sunlight to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through photosynthesis and store it as carbon in the form of wood.

Planting native varieties of British trees is also important for improving nature's biodiversity, creating a greener, more resilient environment.

The first tranche of 5,000 trees will be planted by TCV in February in locations throughout the UK.
