Bellway Homes has acquired a brownfield site in Lower Sydenham to develop a new workspace.
The site at Maybrey Works, Worsley Bridge Road will be transformed into quality new homes and a sustainable high-quality light industrial space, comprising 159 one, two and three-bedroom apartments with a shared courtyard to separate the residential homes from the workspace.
The demolition of the existing industrial warehouses will begin on site ahead of construction work commencing on the new builds early in 2019.
Jamie MacArthur, Divisional Planning Manager for Bellway Homes' Thames Gateway division, said: "We are pleased to be starting work on this piece of land which is currently a blot on the local landscape. We are delighted to be contributing to the neighbourhoods' transformation, bringing new homes and business space to an area that is crying out for re-development.
"These new properties will take advantage of the local amenities and excellent transport links. In unlocking its development potential, the regeneration of this brownfield space will make a significant contribution to supporting Sydenham's growing housing requirement."
The homes will have an entrance portal, a resident's gym, cycle stores and discrete refuse areas. A podium garden will also be developed for the residents, including play areas.
Homes are expected to go on sale in Winter 2019, with Help to Buy available on selected plots.
