Construction work is underway on a new restaurant on Eastbourne's landmark Wish Tower site.

Levitt Bernstein developed the designs for the Bristot Pierre restaurant in conjunction with Gillespie Yunnie Architects.

Founder of the Bistrot Pierre chain, Robert Beacham, visited the site to celebrate the progress.

Mr Beacham said: "The prospect of opening a restaurant on what is undoubtedly one of the most stunning locations on the south coast is incredibly exciting. Eastbourne is thriving, the town centre shopping and lifestyle offer is being transformed and the redevelopment of the Devonshire Quarter is spectacular.

"In David Tutt and his team at Eastbourne Borough Council we have established a superb partnership and one that will help us tailor a fantastic dining experience, including locally sourced fish and shellfish, for local residents and the millions of annual seafront visitors."

Councillor David Tutt, Leader of Eastbourne Borough Council, added: "I am quietly confident that when Bistrot Pierre opens next year it will quickly become one of their most popular UK destinations.

"The gallic cooking influences, fresh fish dishes, great value and breathtaking sea views are a recipe for success anywhere in the world.

"Knowing how popular the restaurant will be my only concern is being able to make a reservation!"

The Bristot Pierre restaurant is expected to open in 2019.
