Wokingham Borough Council has awarded two contracts as part of an alliance to manage and maintain highways in the district.
VolkerHighways has secured a Highways and Transport Maintenance and Construction Contract, beginning on 01 April 2019. It will run for seven years, with a possible extension to 10 years.
The business will undertake construction services and both routine and reactive highways maintenance, including street lighting, structures, bridges, drainage and winter maintenance.
They will also perform safety inspections, deliver major infrastructure projects and provide emergency response cover.
The council has also awarded a separate professional services and consultancy contract to WSP and together, the three organisations will form the Wokingham Highways Alliance.
Alistair Thompson, managing director of VolkerHighways, said: "We are delighted to have been awarded this new contract and look forward to delivering a quality service, through our highways alliance with Wokingham Borough Council and WSP."
Cllr Anthony Pollock, executive member for Highways and Transport said, "We are very pleased to be working in partnership with WSP and VolkerHighways to deliver a more agile, efficient and informative service."
In addition, the VolkerHighways team will work in partnership with the council on their '21st Century programme', using technology to keep residents fully informed about works being carried out throughout the borough.
The council's 'Report It' system will give residents the opportunity to report highways issues directly to the VolkerHighways team and receive updates as they are resolved, ensuring a seamless and efficient customer experience.
