Kier has begun construction on the new £14.4m Lordswood Boys School in Harborne, Birmingham.

Replacing the existing building, the new three-storey facility will include 34 classrooms, a main hall, sports hall, library resource centre, special educational needs provision and ancillary teaching facilities. Landscaping and hard play space will also be provided on site.

The new development is being delivered under the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) East Midlands Priority School Building Programme 2 (PSBP2).

Mark Pausey, managing director for Kier Construction Central, said: "We are thrilled to be constructing Lordswood Boys School in Harborne. The new facility will provide a modern and updated learning experience with state-of-the-art facilities designed to help pupils achieve their full potential.

David Kershaw, CEO of the Central Academies Trust (CAT) added: "The Trust, Governors, Staff and especially the Boys at Lordswood are absolutely delighted to see that work has started on their new school. 

"The exceptional facilities in the new building will further enhance the remarkable progress the school is making with its increased student numbers, and truly outstanding examination results this summer. These new facilities will enable the school to further develop high quality learning and teaching in all areas of the curriculum."

The school is expected to be completed in winter 2020.
