Plans Put Forward For £250m Quayside West Development

Newby has put forward plans for the £250 million Quayside West development in central Newcastle.

Located on the former Calders leadwork factory site, the planned development is described as an "urban village".

The site, derelict since 2002, would include up to 1,500 homes as well 10,605 sq m of commercial, community and leisure space.

Over 600 construction and chain jobs will be created during the 10-year development period.

Enabling works on the site are scheduled to start in spring 2019, with construction to begin in autumn 2019. First residents could begin moving into the development by early 2021.

Quayside West will be the first development to be built as part of Newcastle City Council's Forth Yards regeneration.

The Forth Yards regeneration is a plan by the council to redevelop a number of former industrial brownfield sites to the west of the city along the River Tyne.
