McGoff Appoints First Female Director

McGoff Construction has announced the appointment of Emma James as Director of Support Services and Business Operations, marking the first female Director appointment since Co-Director and founder Ethna McGoff.

The appointment represents the next step in the evolution of McGoff Construction, as the business continues to build a strong management team and a solid foundation for further growth.

As Director of Support Services and Business Operations, Emma will continue to manage the Groups business operations functions of developing structured and standardised processes from initial conception through to implementation and will continue to drive the Groups philosophies to ensure the business continues on its progressive trajectory of improvement, whilst remaining extremely transparent in promoting a genuine people centric culture.

Emma said: "McGoff Construction is truly organic company that is not afraid to change with the times, we have great people, great ethics and a clear vision to expand the business, the growth potential for the Group is extremely exciting, working with leading clients in addition to our home grown development work. As the business continues to see steady growth, the more the culture has to reinvent itself. It's all the more important that the Group maintains continuous improvement of our process and people strategies to support this business progression."

As the central hub for support services to the wider McGoff Group, the business operations team manages the Group's central functions of Recruitment, Human Resources and Supply Chain collaboration in addition to Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality compliance.

Emma continued: "The services we deliver are completely unique. The support function has developed from servicing typical main contractor requirements to adopting the expanding requirements of the wider Group. We now deliver a holistic service across the entire Group's operation comprising; site acquisition, design and build Principal Contracting, luxury care home and day nursery operation and dedicated facilities services provision."

Fostering a family approach, at the heart of the core service it's clear to see that McGoff Construction position the well-being of their employees as a top priority, with the business holding Investors in People Gold status in addition to Best Companies accreditation, seeing the Group included in the Top 75 companies to work for in the North West.

Emma added: "It's a huge accolade to become the first female Director since Co-Director and founder Ethna McGoff. Part of my vision is to support others by raising awareness and highlighting our own strategies around diversity and wellbeing. The business case for diversity continues to be compelling and to have global relevance, whereby creating more opportunities for women starts with creating a more inclusive environment.

"Building effective wellbeing strategies requires a strong, sustained and authentic approach. Any specific efforts to tackle these areas are ineffective if companies don't encourage and adopt the right work culture. I am incredibly proud to be a part of a company that encourages and promotes a strong female workforce and places wellbeing as a top priority."

Women are expected to make up a quarter (25%) of the UK's construction workforce by 2020. McGoff Group march ahead of the industry 2020 with Women making up 36% of the Groups valued workforce in 2018 with a 37% female Management Board.

The Groups emphasis on a true people centric culture is evident though continued efforts to bring new innovative schemes into the fold which ultimately support this strategy. With a Mental Health First Aid-trained Management team, the Group continues to take positive actions to build on a culture that champions mental health and wellbeing, providing a proactive and engaging approach to enhancing the health and wellbeing of their employees.

Dave McGoff commented: "I'm delighted to welcome Emma to the Board. Her commitment over the last 10 years has been phenomenal , it's been an honour to witness her career progression thorough every level of the Business having assembled a highly skilled and dedicated Group Services team around her."
