MMB To Begin Work On £2.3m Thirsk Sewer Upgrade

Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) is to begin work on a £2.3 million sewer pipe upgrade scheme in Thirsk, North Yorkshire.

The year-long project involves laying a new three-mile long sewer pipe from Bagby to its waste water treatment works at Sowerby. Work is scheduled to start on Monday, 06 August.

The project is part of a wider programme of environmental improvements to enhance the quality of water that is discharged from some of its waste water treatment works. The new sewer pipeline, once complete, will mean that Bagby sewage plant can be decommissioned, with the village's sewage waste treated in Thirsk instead.

Yorkshire Water communications advisor, Mark Allsop, said: "This work will improve the quality of watercourses in Bagby and is needed to meet new environmental water quality standards. We'd like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank everyone in advance for their patience and assistance. Please be assured we'll do everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum and complete the work as quickly as possible."
