A further 29 jobs have been lost due to the collapse of industry services firm Carillion, according to the Official Receiver.

"They will be provided with every support to find new work by Jobcentre Plus' Rapid Response Service," the spokesperson said.

"Discussions continue with potential purchasers for Carillion's remaining contracts and with staff, elected employee representatives and unions as these arrangements are confirmed."

The news means to date, 11,638 jobs have been saved, amounting to 64% of the pre-liquidation workforce. However, 2,332 (13%) of jobs have been made redundant.

Just over 3,000 employees are still being retained to deliver the remaining services Carillion is providing for public and private sector customers until decisions are taken to transfer or cease these contracts.
