Work has started to expand a secondary school in Merseyside.

A new two-storey blocks is being built by Wates for Maghull High School on Ormonde Drive.

Features include developing a new school hall, dining room, dedicated performing arts suite and two floors of cutting-edge classrooms.

The work, which is part of the ESFA's Priority School Building Programme 2 (PSBP2), is the first of three proposed schemes that Wates is delivering across the North West, with Hartford High School in Northwich and Upton Heath Primary in Chester to follow.

Once the project is complete in spring 2019, parts of the existing school building will be demolished.

Tony Shenton, Business Unit Director, Wates Construction North West, said: "We're pleased to have begun the important task of building these much-needed new facilities for Maghull High School.
