Egis has acquired the operations and maintenance contract for the M40 motorway, formally undertaken by Carillon.
Egis said it was delighted to be returning to the M40 through its newly created company Egis Road Operation M40 Ltd having undertaken the initial startup of M40 operations and maintenance contract between 1997 and 2007.
The M40 motorway is one of the leading arteries to the greater northwest region and forms part of a European route E05.
DBFO-30 is a Design Build Finance and Operate contract awarded to UK Highways M40 Ltd, (formally UK Highways Plc and for which Egis was a partner in its former years) and covers the majority of the M40 motorway (J1A-J15).
J1A connects the M25 London Orbital Motorway, and Junction 15 intersects with the A46 near Warwick. The operational and maintenance project consists of 123km of 2 x 3 lane motorway, with over 300 structures on a 30yr contract until January 2027.
Core services undertaken are Network Management, Safety Inspections, Cyclical and Routine Maintenance, Accident and Emergency Response and Winter Maintenance, for which Egis looks forward to working very closely and collaboratively with UK Highways M40 Ltd, Highways England, the Emergency Services and other Stakeholders.
Egis currently plays an active part in the M25 Operations and Maintenance Joint Venture "Connect Plus Services" also as a key shareholder in the management of the concessionaire; Connect Plus, who were successful in being awarded the 30-year DBFO contract.
Similar projects compared to the M40 are active in the Republic of Ireland, where Egis has successfully been operating over the past ten years, either independently or with its partners, projects compiling of more than 470km of motorway and national roads with tolling (road charging), including the Motorway Operational Control Centre covering the network, which encompasses Ireland's three principle motorway tunnels, one being the 4.5 km Dublin Tunnel, one of Europe's longest urban motorway tunnels.
The above activities form part of its operations worldwide, with more than 3,000 km of roads and 59 km of tunnels used daily by more than 2,500,000 customers with various activities in more than 102 countries across the world.
