University Of Warwick Selects Kier To Build £57m Student Village

The University of Warwick has selected Kier to develop a £57million Student Village.

The firm is to redevelop the university's Cryfield Student Village.

The project will see Kier provide 828 new student bedrooms in a mixture of townhouses and cluster blocks, as well as a new 'village hall' building containing offices, a laundrette, a post room and student meeting areas, taking the total number of rooms Kier is currently building for the University up to over 1,000.

The development has been designed to provide a miniature village on campus, with a series of townhouse apartments and studios surrounding the hub building in the centre.

The existing five accommodation blocks of the Redfern halls of residences will be demolished to make way for the 12 buildings that make up the village.

Enabling works are currently underway, with the first students due to move in during Summer 2019, with overall completion by Christmas 2020.

Mark Pausey, Kier Construction Central Managing Director, said: "This £57m win is another significant award for Kier in student accommodation and takes the total number of rooms we’re currently providing for the University to over 1,000.

"The demand for student accommodation across the UK has been increasing 17% year on year and this latest scheme builds on our excellent track record in the higher education sector including projects with the University of Northampton and University of Lincoln. We are looking forward to continuing our strong working relationship with the University to deliver this key redevelopment which will help meet this rise in demand."
