PEFC Sponsors New Award At World Architecture Festival 2018

Construction News Image
Do you use solid wood products such as cross laminated timber or glulam in your construction projects? Have you chosen to specify wood for its many aesthetic, natural and architectural properties? Or simply because it's the world's leading mainstream, low-carbon and renewable building material?

You can now gain global recognition for your design approach and use of certified timber by entering your project in a newly created category at the respected World Architecture Festival (WAF) and supported by PEFC.
The Best Use of Certified Timber Prize will be presented for the very first time to reward project teams and architects that have used certified timber in a creative, innovative and inspirational way and demonstrated clearly how timber and responsible sourcing has played a major part in a completed building. For more information on the prize see www.worldarchitecturefestival.com/2018-prizes-page.

The 11th World Architecture Festival will take place in Amsterdam from 28-30 November 2018, and more than 500 architectural practices are expected to enter a wide range of Awards. Past winners include some the world's most iconic and best-known architectural practices including: Foster & Partners, Zaha Hadid Architects, Snohetta, BIG, Isay Weinfeld, Perkins & Will, Rogers Stirk Harbour, FJMT and Sou Fujimoto.

How to Enter

Entry is simple. You can enter your project via the WAF website - www.worldarchitecturefestival.comENTER - where there are 16 completed buildings award categories that are all eligible for the Best Use of Certified Timber Prize – please remember that the use of certified timber in your project is essential.

A special jury – including a PEFC representative – will identify entries that have used certified timber in an exceptional way and shortlisted entries will be contacted to confirm that the timber specified and used in the project originates from certified sources – such as PEFC-certified forests – thereby demonstrating clear leadership in sustainable design and responsible purchasing.

The jury will finally judge face-to-face presentations of the 10 best entries on the morning of Friday 30 November 2018, at WAF in Amsterdam. The winner will be presented with their special prize at a Gala Dinner on the same evening. The deadline for entry is 11 May 2018.

Designing the future with sustainable timber

Across the world, the architecture community is embracing solid and engineered wood to deliver high profile, award winning projects – from houses, schools and hotels to restaurants, theatres, supermarkets and swimming pools. Under the theme Designing the Future with Sustainable Timber, a range of stakeholders have come together under the leadership of PEFC to promote the use of wood in construction in general and certified wood in particular. Certification is important as it demonstrates that wood used in construction is sustainably sourced and a positive choice has been made to build and design with a future for healthy forests in mind. PEFC-certified timber and engineered wood products are readily available for your construction projects from a wide range of global suppliers. Construction projects and those operating within PEFC Project Chain of Custody certification demonstrate excellence in responsible sourcing.
