Up to 70 jobs are to be axed at UK structural steel specialist, Severfield.
The roles will be cut from the company's site in Lostock as part of its plans to restructure its UK manufacturing capacity.
A consultation on the redundancies began on 26 February.
Stephen Boden, Organiser at the GMB Union, said the news is "devastating" for members and their families.
"The proposed restructure follows recent changes in the nature, mix and timing of work being carried out by the company - and uncertainty over Brexit is causing delays in new contracts being awarded," he said.
"GMB is working closely with the affected membership to mitigate compulsory job losses and to secure the best possible deal through the consultation period."
