Morgan Sindall's specialist Ridham Precast Facility has been appointed to help deliver the £4.2 billion Thames Tideway Tunnel in London.
The Kent-based factory has secured a £17 million deal to supply almost 7kms of tunnel rings for west section of the major infrastructure scheme.
A total of 4,086 precast concrete tunnel rings will be created for the Morgan Sindall, Balfour Beatty and BAM Nuttall joint venture delivering the west section. With 50 tunnel rings being produced a week, production got underway in summer 2017 and will continue to July 2019.
The completed ring segments will be transported by road to a local dock then by barge along the River Thames direct to the Tideway Carnwath Road Riverside work site in south west London. Overall, the segments are 7.1-metres in diameter and will line 6.95kms of the tunnel.
David Hicks, senior operations manager at the Ridham Precast Facility, said: "This is an important order for Ridham, giving two years of work for the factory. We look forward to a successful partnership with Thames Tideway and the joint venture on this high-profile project."
