A joint venture (JV) between Morgan Sindall and BAM Nuttall has won two motorway upgrade contractors worth £322 million.

BmJV will deliver the two deals as part of Highways England's smart motorway programme.

The first £104m contract involves upgrading 10 miles of the M62 between Warrington (J10) and Manchester (J12). Supported by design partners WSP and AECOM, work on the two-stage design and build deal is now underway and completion is scheduled for spring 2018.

The second contract, worth £218m, involves converting junctions 4 and 11 on the M27 into a new permanent dual 4-lane route running along the 15-mile stretch. Design works will commence this month, with bmJV supported by design partners SWECO/Mott Macdonald and WSP. Construction will start this spring.

Paul Gott, managing director of Highways at Morgan Sindall, said: "These contracts mark the start of two more prestigious projects for bmJV. The established relationship between our two companies enables us to provide the best possible service to enhance the capacity and reliability of the UK's strategic road network in order to improve journeys for road users."
